I didn’t start out as a home inspector. For years, I worked as a general contractor throughout the Asheville area, building additions, renovating older homes, and fixing problems in houses of all ages and styles. The work was satisfying, but I kept running into the same frustrating pattern: homeowners discovering expensive issues months or even years after purchase that should have been caught during their inspection.
I’d get calls from new homeowners who were blindsided by foundation problems, outdated electrical systems, or roofing issues that were visible to anyone who knew what to look for. These weren’t small inconveniences – they were budget-breaking repairs that could have been negotiated during the sale or at least planned for. After seeing too many people in that position, I realized I could help on the front end instead of just fixing problems after the fact.
That’s what led me to home inspection 12 years ago. My construction background gives me a practical understanding of how homes are built and what goes wrong over time. I know what shoddy work looks like because I’ve repaired it. I understand which issues are urgent and which can wait because I’ve prioritized those repairs for clients. And I can explain things in plain language because I’ve had to walk homeowners through these situations countless times.
When you hire me to inspect your home, you’re getting someone who’s spent decades looking at how houses actually perform in the real world. My goal is to help you understand exactly what you’re buying so you can make an informed decision and avoid the expensive surprises I used to get called to fix.
I’ve lived in Western North Carolina my entire life and have been inspecting homes in the Asheville area for 12 years. My background in construction helps me understand how homes are built and what can go wrong over time. I take time to explain what I find and answer your questions – buying a home is a big decision, and you deserve to understand what you’re getting into.
When I’m not working, you’ll find me hiking local trails or volunteering with trail maintenance groups.
